Why the Bordeaux region?

The countryside of the Bordeaux region is beautiful & unspoilt, featuring ancient villages & market towns, character chateaux, vineyards to the horizon, and a gentle, old-fashioned pace of life. When not relaxing at your villa, walking, cycle rides, discovering the region's culture & history, market trips - and wine-tasting, naturally! - are the order of the day. There is also a wide choice of activities available nearby including golf, water sports and horse riding. A visit to the fascinating city of Bordeaux itself is a must, as is a day-trip to the fabulous beaches of the Gironde coast.

Location

Maison Orchis is located on a domaine of around 5 hectares. Surrounded by hilly countryside, there are fantastic views of the surrounding vineyards. Lots of traditional villages nearby, Bourg en Gironde is the closest town, 4km away.

Bourg en Gironde is classed as an historic town, with its medieval walls and citadel. Built on a rocky outcrop and with winding streets down to the harbour, Bourg is rich in cultural and historic heritage and there is plenty to explore.

As well as the weekly market on Sunday mornings, the local vineyards have shops in town where you can sample and buy their wines.  “La Maison du Vin” is particularly recommended, an extremely well-stocked wine-cellar where you can sample and buy wines from the 600 different properties in the Côtes du Bourg wine region.

Larger towns to visit too: Blaye (15 kms), St Emilion (40 kms), Bordeaux (45 kms). Plenty of vineyards to visit, the house is situated within the blayais vineyard, with the St. Emilion and Médoc vineyards within easy reach. A good choice of golf courses between 40 and 100kms away: St Sulpice & Cameyrac, Golfs de Bordeaux, Margaux, Golf du Médoc.
