Anything to watch out for?

Why Lacanau-Ocean?
Lacanau-Ocean is an outdoor playground, offering a superb beach, lovely cycle trails, tennis, golf, surfing, water-skiing and sailing. In July & August there's plenty going on in the day time and evenings - outside these months it's a little quieter. Beaches stretch for miles, so finding your own patch at whatever time of year is not difficult. Three golf courses are located within 3kms. The famous chateaux of the 'medoc rouge' (the wine producing area), the bassin d'Arcachon and Cap Ferret are all in easy reach.

Modern villas with private pools well-equipped & located for a relaxing holiday

There are approximately 100 villas altogether on the Eden Parc site. It's a mature complex (15 years old) with good screening between the properties. Many back on to the forest.

The style & furnishings are modern and neutral - white walls, tiled floors.  Large sliding doors between the lounge and the pool let in plenty of light.

Each villa has:

  • A spacious living room with dining area and open-plan kitchen
  • Dining table and chairs, fireplace, sofa & chairs, TV
  • The sofa is convertible to a bed and can accommodate an extra 2 people if required
  • Kitchen is separated from the living/dining area by a breakfast bar; contains dishwasher, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, kettle, toaster and coffee-machine
  • Washing machine and dryer

  • Private pool - most pools are 8m x 4m, protected by approved cover.  They are unheated, and are generally open mid-May until the end of October.

Out & About

Lacanau-Ocean is the pre-eminent sea-side town of the Medoc Bleu, an area noted for a wide variety of activities and attractions.

Ocean beaches: wide, sandy Atlantic beaches are long enough that you can always find a quiet spot to yourself even in high summer just a short way away form the centre of town.

Cycling and hiking trails: over 120 kms of safe cycle tracks lead through the forests up and down this stretch of coast, from Carcans-Maubuisson north of Lacanau, all the way, ultimately, to the Pointe de Cap Ferret to the south. Several local bike hire shops, it's a lovely way to get around.

The local lakes are a great opportunity for whiling away the hours in tranquility, listening to the water lapping the sandy shores. The surrounding forest are perfect for picnics and rambling. The lake beach at Moutchic is popular, but Longarisse is the one the locals go to!

Local Amenities
* Restaurants - several in Lacanau Ocean
* Shops - local amenities in Lacanau Ocean (fishmonger, bakery, grocery store, etc), plus a few boutiques
* Supermarket - mini-market at Lacanau Ocean, plus larger supermarket in Lacanau-bourg 8 kms inland
* Markets - weekly market in Lacanau-Ocean (Saturday mornings)

Lacanau is also well-located for exploring further afield - many places of interest in this south-west corner of France are within an hour's drive:

Day trip ideas
* Tour and tasting around world-famous Medoc vineyards
* Boat trips along the Gironde and to the Phare de Courdouan
* Drive down to Cap Ferret, for oyster-tasting and to climb the lighthouse
* Spend a day strolling beautiful St Emilion (but get there early)
* Explore the narrow streets and squares of central Bordeaux and soak up the history

Our personal highlights
* Picnicking by the lac de Lacanau - find a shady spot and enjoy the tranquility
* Hit the beach late afternoon and stay for an evening gourmet picnic, like the French do, watching the sun go down
* Cycle rides along the forest trails - mainly flat, easy & very enjoyable
* Driving by some of the outlandish Medoc chateaux - impressive, and humbling
* For some real exhilaration try a surfing lesson, or just hire a body-board!

Service: we cold not rate them any more than extremely first class.we have been with them for many years an have nothing but admiration for our treatment

Product: We have been with Aternative Aquitaine for many years and have complete satisfaction with their expertise.

    On 03-Jul-2017 we responded:

Product Comment: It's been our pleasure to organise your Lacanau Ocean villa holidays for so many years!

    Service: Quick response rate.

Product: I thought the accommodation was a little run down. Nothing major but would certainly improve the look. Broken tiles outside, bathroom grout mouldy, garden could be a bit neater. Place was nice and clean and well equipped with everything we needed. Needs Wifi and cable TV.

    On 06-Oct-2016 we responded:

Service Comment: Thank you for sharing your feedback. September is a great time to be in Lacanau - it's quieter but there are bars & restaurants open and the surf is reliable too. Your comments on the villas are very helpful too; we will talk with the supplier about the villa you stayed in and make sure it's improved for next season - it sounds like minor maintenance issues that can be addressed easily at the close of this season. We are lobbying the supplier to install wifi in the villas - there are other villa estates we can offer that have this amenity. Thanks again for writing. Justin

Service: Alternative Aquitaine were accurate with their information on both destination activities and property. Prompt to reply to inquiries and very helpful.

Product: we had booked a 3 bed but on arrival were pleasantly surprised to know we were given a 4 bed. Very clean. Great location overlooking the forest and golf course. Only gripe with the place was the hopeless reception at Eden Parc. Couldn't tell us if there was a bus to Bordeaux, couldn't phone the Fedex for us. Everything else about Eden Parc is great.

    On 22-Jul-2016 we responded:

Service Comment: Thanks for writing and great news that you enjoyed Lacanau and the Eden Parc villa. Sounds like you really embraced what Lacanau and the area has to offer. Shame about the reception; the tourist office in Lacanau Ocean is a good source of advice and info for all visitors. Justin

    Service: Service was great.

Product: Good but there was no wifi in the villa and most of the pool area was shaded by trees.

    On 17-Sep-2015 we responded:

Service Comment: Thank you very much for replying to the survey. At the moment none of the Lacanau villas have wifi - it's available at reception only. We're pressing the local management company on this matter as we'd like to see in-villa wifi introduced. Justin

Product: Advertised as having WiFi but you had to drive to reception 1 km away to get it!! Not acceptable

Service: Very good service all round, I was impressed that they were honest about the accommodation standards which they called average or simple only to find that the actual place was very good when we got there! Its so often the other way around! I feel this is a company that is trying hard to provide excellent service and repeat business, not just making a quick buck!

Product: Brilliant place, excellent location and services, good access to the beach, the town, the lake, lovely setting, great for bike rides, great for swimming, great for surfing, great for doing nothing! Very peaceful with plenty to do or not do, great for young kids as well as long as they have their armbands on!

    On 17-Oct-2014 we responded:

Service Comment: Hello and thanks very much for your comments. It sounds as though you really enjoyed the Lacanau 'experience'. I'm delighted to report that I shall be 'working' there next week - if I pack my wetsuit I might give the game away! Justin

Service: The quality of documentation and information provided was very good.

Product: The property was very good although functionally decorated in a beautiful position overlooking the golf course. It was a very relaxing location. The procedure for checking in was rather chaotic which is somewhat surprising given the time the staff allow between checkout and checkin. We had to go back to reception (which is a drive from Eden Parc) as the linen packs had not arrived and beds were not made. Linen arrived at about 6.30 pm. This really is not acceptable.

    On 05-Sep-2014 we responded:

Service Comment: Thank you for the great feedback about the villa and area. But sorry to hear about the service on arrival - although made beds aren't included here you should of course expect linen when you arrive, we will be following this up. Happily it doesn't sound like it spoiled the enjoyment of your holiday! Alex

    Service: Always helpful & informative.

Product: Property was good but we felt that some standards had slipped a little since our first stay. The pool was filthy on our arrival (although cleaned on the 1st Monday after we raised this) quite a few bulbs weren't working & the 2 shower attachments over the bath could not be fixed on the wall we reported one in the main bedroom the 1st day but it did nit get fixed. We were also advised again that the property had to be thoroughly cleaned on departure or we could pay €150 charge for Estivel to clean it. Pool was cleaned on our 1st Monday but then only cleaned again on the Thursday prior to our departure, certainly not weekly as the literature we were given suggests.

    Service: Good communication and service.

Product: The actual property, number 60 was not of a high standard, also bedding was poor and bedding sheets and pillows poor quality. We actually had to clean the kitchen utensils and cutlery before we used them. The pool was very dirty, cleaned on the Monday morning, the gardens had not been maintained for several weeks but was on the Wednesday.

    On 13-Jun-2014 we responded:

Service Comment: Thank you for your comments, though obviously it's disappointing that the villa wasn't as well-prepared by the villa operator as it should have been, we will be following up with them. We're pleased you enjoyed the location. Thanks again. Alex

Product: We had fun, but this is a bit of a housing estate (a nice one!) so be prepared for that feeling of cheek by jowl with everybody else. Check out is an appalling mess which they need to sort out because it sends you away in a foul mood.
