Charming Landais cottage with pool, a short drive to Hossegor's beaches.
What makes Maison Tuilerie a great holiday rental
It's one of our 'Value Villas with a Private Pool'. It's not easy to find a holiday home with private pool for less than GBP 2000/wk in August, especially in the Hossegor area, but Maison Tuilerie is just that.
Best for:
Families who want a cottage near the coast and with a pool, on a reasonable budget.
Suitability for:
Anything to watch out for?
Yes, two things:
1) The location is a little unconventional for a holiday home. Tuilerie is situated within a 'zone artisanale' (a mixed commerical & residential zone) including light industrial units, several surf brands' factory outlet shops and the main offices for both Rip Curl and Billabong. The house is, however, set back from the road and the outdoor focus at Tuilerie is at the rear of the cottage which backs on to open fields: in the back garden there's a real feeling of seclusion. Please view the property situation in the Location tab using the Google map provided.
2) The swimming pool works best for kids and is not a pool for swimming lengths. It's partly above-ground and octagonal in shape - best to think of it as a 'splash pool'.
Why Hossegor?
An established surfing resort with a very 'cool' vibe. The resort offers great beaches, good shopping, a lovely lagoon and plenty of activities (surf, golf, tennis, cycling, sailing & more).

Comfortable cottage accommodation with pool near surf resort Hossegor.
Maison Tuilerie was purchased by an English family in 2006 and has been renovated to provide comfortable cottage accommodation near the seaside. The original beam-work is retained and the decor has been totally freshened up creating a much 'cleaner' and lighter feel.
Inside:
The majority of the accommodation is on the ground floor. This comprises:
• Open-plan living room with separate dining and lounge areas. The dining table will comfortably seat 6 people and there's lounge seating for 6 also. French doors open from the living room to the patio and pool area.
• Fully-equipped, new kitchen
• Double bedroom with views of the fields
• Twin bedroom with views of the fields
• Shower room with shower, basin and WC
On the first floor is the master bedroom which has a private bathroom (bath, shower, basin, WC) and views of the fields.
Outside:
In all, there's 2200m2 of garden with plenty of space at the front and back. In reality the front is mainly used for parking as the industrial units are just over the road. The place to relax is out the back where the pool is situated and the garden backs on to open fields.
The pool is situated in the back garden and at the end of the terrace - it's just a few steps from the lounge French doors (which are lockable).
The patio and pool area is south-facing and there are a couple of fruit trees for shade.
Bedrooms:
3 (2x doubles & 1x twin)
Bathrooms:
2 (1x shower room & 1x bathroom; 2x WCs in total)
Style of property:
Renovated Landais cottage

The cottage is in Soorts-Hossegor, 5kms from the beaches and c.40 km north of Biarritz. There's good access to the motorway, airport and railway. The immediate area is mixed residential and commercial, so quite unconventional for a holiday home: there are warehouse units across the road from the house, and the 'zone artisanale' also features factory outlet shops, supermarket and restaurant. This is where a lot of the surf businesses and offices are based. As such the immediate area does not especially evoke summer holiday thoughts but the property is best enjoyed from the back gardens where there are views of open fields.

Our Personal Highlights
The Local Area: Hossegor
Soorts-Hossegor & Seignosse-Bourg
Soorts is a small village with tabac, tennis, boulangerie and a hotel restaurant. Seignosse Bourg: a small Landais village just inland from the Atlantic coast. There's a few shops including boulangerie in the village centre and a couple of restaurants to choose from. It's great bonus is a big tennis centre.
Golf de Seignosse
A water and forest monster of a course ranked in Continental Europe’s Top 50! Very welcoming clubhouse with a restaurant and bar (serving meals midday-5pm each day) with fabulous views of the course from the terrace. The course hotel serves excellent, more formal ŕ la carte meals in the evening.
Seignosse Plages
4kms to the west are the continuous beaches les Estagnots, Bourdaines and le Penon. It's a mostly residential area with a number of holiday homes and apartments. The architecture is not especially attractive but it's the lovely sandy coastline that draws visitors. Popular with surfers and families, the beaches are superb. There are seasonal shops, a bit of nightlife and a Water Park.
Hossegor & Capbreton
The local region of Sud Landes is typical Aquitaine - endless stretches of sandy beaches buffeted by the Atlantic ocean, vast pine forests punctuated by the occasional lake and criss-crossed by a network of cycle trails.
Capbreton and Hossegor are neighbouring seaside towns which between them offer an appealing contrast. Hossegor is the more famous, largely through its surfing heritage. It's a 'feelgood' place offering boutique shopping, great bars and restaurants, world-famous surfing beaches, casino, and a lovely golf course and a beautiful lake for safe bathing and sailing.
Capbreton lives in the shadow of Hossegor but it's the place the locals prefer for eating out and for beaches. It's definitely the more authentic of the two, largely because of its fishing port and daily fish market. In fact, the town thrived in the 19th century as a whaling port and this sea-faring heritage is still very much apparent today.
It also has a charming town centre and market. Capbreton is just more French than Hossegor, if you see what we mean. It remains, admirably, something of a French (and Spanish) secret.
Capbreton sea-front is a bustling place, day and evening. You can walk all the way along the marina and sea-front. The jetty, known locally as l'estacade, offers excellent coastal views. There's normally a few locals here trying to catch a fish for supper. It makes for great viewing!
Like most of the south west coast, Capbreton-Hossegor is something of an outdoor playground. Take your pick from surfing, canoeing, sailing, diving, fishing, cycling, tennis, horse-riding and golf to name a few. Golfers will enjoy the local course, the 1930s-built Golf d’Hossegor. The traditional club house is also a delight. A short drive up the road is the infamous Golf de Seignosse. There are other great courses within 45 minutes drive including Moliets and several around Biarritz.
The whole Aquitaine coast is a perfect venue for surfers but at Capbreton the presence of an offshore hollow in the sea-bed gives the waves here that extra edge. If you don't fancy a go yourself, just sit on the sea-front with a drink of your choice and watch the surfers ride to shore.
Cyclists can enjoy the many safe forest tracks that connect between the towns along the coast. Sailing enthusiasts should head for the Capbreton Marina. Being so close to the Pays Basque border, sporting life also includes the legendary game of pelote; you can watch a game at the fronton in Hossegor.
