Architect-designed contemporary villa with direct beach access.
What makes l'Estagnots Beach House a great holiday rental
Where do we start? It is rare to find a holiday home with direct beach access - the property sits literally just behind the dunes. But it's also a superb villa, with a hugely attractive maritime design, and excellent facilities too - including a heated swimming pool and a putting green!
Best for:
Families with older kids who want easy access to the surf. Equally it's ideal for couples who want luxury and easy access to surf and play golf. And younger kids will love the play area, putting green, pool and sand dunes!
Suitability for:
Anything to watch out for?
Just beware of the large glass sliding patio doors.
Why Hossegor?
An established surfing resort with a very 'cool' vibe. The resort offers great beaches, good shopping, a lovely lagoon and plenty of activities (surf, golf, tennis, cycling, sailing & more). There's also a wealth of restaurants (neighbouring Capbreton is best for seafood) and oysters are farmed in the lagoon - you can do tastings.
In this section we provide our personal insight into the property.
We've inspected every property on our website and as independent agents we are able to provide objective opinions about rentals - something you cannot get by booking direct.

'Malibu style' luxury villa with superb pool in stunning beach-side location
A uniquely designed villa in a stunning location. l'Estagnots truly merits the description 'luxury villa'.
Offering 260m2 accommodation, this is a very spacious property too. In fact, the combination of open-plan design and timber and glass construction, certainly give the property that 'beach house vibe'.
Inside:
Ground floor
The vast living room has three 'zones':
-kitchen with grill, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, hob, oven and microwave
-dining area with seating for 10
-cosy lounge area with sofas for 6, plasma screen TV, fireplace
A separate laundry area with washing machine and dryer.
The living room features sliding glass doors which access the terrace and pool and filter an amazing amount of sunlight into the room.
There are three bedrooms on the ground floor, two with twin beds and one with a double bed. The two twins directly access the pool terrace and/or garden whilst the double room is at the front of the house.
There is one bathroom serving these three bedrooms (WC, shower enclosure) and there's an additional independent WC.
If you feel the needs to burn off some croissant-induced-calories, there's a fitness room which also features a sun-bed.
Upstairs
The first floor is in fact given over entirely to the air-conditioned master bedroom suite, a superb room with its floor-to-ceiling windows creating dramatic views of the dunes and pine trees, and providing some excellent star-gazing opportunities on a clear night!
The suite includes a dressing area and private bathroom (WC, bath and separate shower enclosure). This is a memorable room to spend a holiday.
Annexe
Just a couple of steps across the terrace and there's an additional bedroom suite with four-poster double bed and private bathroom (shower and WC). It's ideal for grandparents, for example, as it gives a little independence without feeling at all cut-off from the main house.
Outside:
To the back of the property is a superb swimming pool, an area of lawn, children's play area and a putting green (with artificial grass)!
The pool is 10x5m and to a depth of 1.5m throughout. It is heated and protected by surrounding glass security fencing. There's also a poolside jacuzzi.
The shaded terrace has an outdoor dining table and BBQ hut.
The grounds are bordered to the south and west by the dune system. This is a protected area which is out-of-bounds to the public.
To the front of the villa is ample parking for 2 or 3 cars. Here, also at the front of the villa, there's a brand new Scandinavian-style fitness room.
Last but not least - the Airstream caravan. It's the genuine article and can sleep an extra 2 or 3 people (best for teenagers). It's very cool indeed! A supplement applies for renting the caravan.

Hossegor (pronounced "oz-gor") is in the Sud Landes area of south west France, not far from Biarritz. The area is dominated by a landscape of ocean, lakes and pine forests, creating one big outdoor playground!
The house is located in the Les Estagnots district at the border of Hossegor and Seignosse. The villa is at the end of a private track (with half a dozen houses) leading to the beach. The track requires a security code to open the gates, so it's closed to the public.
Les Estagnots beach is a world-famous beach break that draws some excellent surf. The beach continues south for 3km to the marina and continues north all the way to Arcachon, unbroken save for a few rivermouths!
-approx 10 mins walk to the lagoon Lac d'Hossegor. There's sandy coves here, picnic spots and watersports. This is an excellent, safe bathing area, ideal for younger kids when the ocean surf is looking formidable.
-3kms to Hossegor town centre shops where you'll find some very tasteful shops, good cafés, lots of restaurants and a good sprinkling of surf boutiques too.
There's easy access to the motorway, airport and train station.

Our Personal Highlights
The Local Area: Hossegor 3km
Seignosse Plages
4kms to the west are the continuous beaches les Estagnots, Bourdaines and le Penon. It's a mostly residential area with a number of holiday homes and apartments. The architecture is not especially attractive but it's the lovely sandy coastline that draws visitors. Popular with surfers and families, the beaches are superb. There are seasonal shops, a bit of nightlife and a Water Park.
Golf de Seignosse
A water and forest monster of a course ranked in Continental Europe’s Top 50! Very welcoming clubhouse with a restaurant and bar (serving meals midday-5pm each day) with fabulous views of the course from the terrace. The course hotel serves excellent, more formal à la carte meals in the evening.
Hossegor & Capbreton
The local region of Sud Landes is typical Aquitaine - endless stretches of sandy beaches buffeted by the Atlantic ocean, vast pine forests punctuated by the occasional lake and criss-crossed by a network of cycle trails.
Capbreton and Hossegor are neighbouring seaside towns which between them offer an appealing contrast. Hossegor is the more famous, largely through its surfing heritage. It's a 'feelgood' place offering boutique shopping, great bars and restaurants, world-famous surfing beaches, casino, a lovely golf course and a beautiful lagoon for safe bathing and sailing.
Capbreton lives in the shadow of Hossegor but it's the place the locals prefer for eating out and for beaches. It's definitely the more authentic of the two, largely because of its fishing port and daily fish market. In fact, the town thrived in the 19th century as a whaling port and this sea-faring heritage is still very much apparent today.
It also has a charming town centre and market. Capbreton is just more French than Hossegor, if you see what we mean. It remains, admirably, something of a French (and Spanish) secret.
Capbreton sea-front is a bustling place, day and evening. You can walk all the way along the marina and sea-front. The jetty, known locally as l'estacade, offers excellent coastal views. There's normally a few locals here trying to catch a fish for supper. It makes for great viewing!
Like most of the south west coast, Capbreton-Hossegor is something of an outdoor playground. Take your pick from surfing, canoeing, sailing, diving, fishing, cycling, tennis, horse-riding and golf to name a few. Golfers will enjoy the local course, the 1930s-built Golf d’Hossegor. The traditional club house is also a delight. A short drive up the road is the infamous Golf de Seignosse. There are other great courses within 45 minutes drive including Moliets and several around Biarritz.
The whole Aquitaine coast is a perfect venue for surfers but at Capbreton the presence of an offshore hollow in the sea-bed gives the waves here that extra edge. If you don't fancy a go yourself, just sit on the sea-front with a drink of your choice and watch the surfers ride to shore.
Cyclists can enjoy the many safe forest tracks that connect between the towns along the coast. Sailing enthusiasts should head for the Capbreton Marina. Being so close to the Pays Basque border, sporting life also includes the legendary game of pelote; you can watch a game at the fronton in Hossegor.
