Very high-spec 'designer' villa 5km to beach.
What makes Villa Clair de Lune a great holiday rental
There aren't many holiday villas with a private pool in Biarritz. But more than that, this villa also offers a standard of accommodation that is rarely seen in a holiday rental - and at 400m2 floorpsace it's well beyond the size of most holiday villas. The parkland setting with mountain views is quite an oasis too.
With a hotel in the grounds too (Relais-Chateau Claire de Lune, a former hunting lodge), one of the main advantages of staying here is that you experience the benefits of hotel service and the independence of self-catering.
Concierge staff can assist you in booking restaurants, golf tee-off times, spa reservations and all kinds of local excursions and activities.

Families with older children and couples, wanting easy access to Biarritz's many attractions.

Why Biarritz?
Biarritz is the most famous resort in Aquitaine and offers brilliant surfing, shopping, places to eat and lots of cultural attractions too. Nearby are pretty Basque country villages, dramatic Pyrenean peaks and Spain's glamorous rival to Biarritz, San Sebastian.

The villa is situated on the south eastern edge of Biarritz, 5km from the resort centre and beaches. The immediate area is leafy, highly secluded and affords excellent views of the Pyrenees. The villa is within the beautiful grounds of a chateau-hotel and there is also a gourmande restaurant here too. It is only a short drive into Biarritz but it will be worth learning a few back-roads in summer as the resort does become congested.

Our Personal Highlights
The Local Area: Biarritz 5km
So, why did generations of royalty from across Europe choose to holiday in Belle Époque Biarritz? Why did Napoleon III build a palace here for his wife, the Emperess Eugénie? Why did Hollywood stars such as Rita Hayworth and Frank Sinatra vacation here in the 1950s? Why, in 1959, did the makers of Cadillac name its 25ft long convertible after the town? And why, today, are French celebrities such as Alain Prost choosing to live here rather than on the French Riviera?
Well, the rugged and wild beaches are undeniably spectactular. The surfing is amongst the best in Europe. It is one of France's main centres for thalassotherapy. There are several highly rated and historic golf courses in and around the town. There's a sailing club at the Pointe de la Vierge and a scuba diving school at the fishing port.
There's a host of fine restaurants and an art-deco casino. The boutique shopping is some of the best in France. And the warm all-year-round climate might have something to do with it.
Above all, though, it's Biarritz's attitude and atmosphere that wins us over. Stylish and sophisticated yet laid-back, with none of the Côte d'Azur's pretence. This may because of the town's eclectic and unique mix of surfers, boutique shoppers, the retired, and families on holiday.
We suspect, however, that it's the local Basque residents, proud and resilient as they are, that make sure the town keeps its feet firmly on the ground.
