Why Arcachon-Pyla?
Pyla is a sought-after, leafy residential district of Arcachon, approx. 5 kms south of the main town, with its own stretch of beach, restaurants, etc, known for its famous sand-dune, Europe's largest - 100m high! Arcachon is an all year round sea-side town that's very popular with French families: it's a manageable size, a great choice of shops, bars, restaurants, and attractive promenade with views over to the Cap Ferret peninsula. The Bay of Arcachon is a fascinating, natural area to explore, and is one of our favourite Aquitaine destinations.

A superb holiday rental in the bassin d'Arcachon, one of our favourite areas of Aquitaine.
Bozkario comprises two three-bedroom houses on a single plot, sharing delightful summer living area/terrace with small pool. The houses are never rented separately. The ‘maison principale’ is convivial, stylish, approx. 150-200m2; the modern, well-equipped ‘maison d’amis’ is approx. 70-80 m2. Total sleeping capacity is 12-14.
Maison principale:
The house is designed in the Maison Landaise style and was totally renovated in 2008 - it has a light and sociable ambience.
The entrance lead to a large open-plan living, dining & kitchen area. Large glass doors lead out onto the rear terrace.
The décor throughout is modern, high quality, including dark grey, large slate style tiles, large light fittings in a ‘chandelier’ style, stylish, wicker-style sofas and armchairs with large grey & cream cushions, and a large solid-wood coffee table which faces a sizeable traditional open brick fireplace.
The kitchen area is very modern with all-chrome fittings. Appliances include: cooker, hob, dishwasher, large fridge freezer (American-style), fully-equipped kitchen with juicer, coffee maker, toaster, microwave. There is also a tumble dryer and washing machine in a separate downstairs laundry room.
On either side of the open fireplace doors lead to 2 double bedrooms. They are tastefully decorated with ample storage space with built in wardrobes. Each room has a flat screen television mounted and en-suite bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Again the theme is grey slate and chrome with very impressive sink units. Both bathrooms are of a good size.
Between the dining and kitchen areas there is a wooden spiral staircase that leads downstairs. To the right of the stairs is a double bedroom, it is not large (and the ceiling is low) but practical, and again there is ample storage with built in wardrobes. A short hallway to the left leads to a shower room, a little more basic than those upstairs but again attractive.
A WC at this level also houses the washing machine & tumble dryer.
The hallway leads on into a small 'studio' room with patio doors opening on to a small patio area which attractive plants and flowers built into the steps that lead up to the terrace. This room has a small fold down pine table and a sofa bed two pull-out single beds. There is also a a small round sink and a twin hob.
Terrace (between the Maison Priciipale & Maison d'Amis):
The rear terrace is decked throughout and connects the two properties, providing a lovely communal area with a relaxing, ‘Moroccan’ feel. There is ample high quality garden furniture, including wicker sofas and loungers and free standing hammocks. There is a smallish swimming/plunge pool (6m x 3m) to the right of the terrace. Surrounding trees provide good privacy from neighbouring properties. This is a very private spot with ample shady and sunny places.
Maison d’Amis
The second property faces the rear of the main property and shares the same terrace. This house is a newly-built but is in keeping with main property. Again you enter through double glass doors. This property is smaller but very attractive and tastefully furnished.
As you enter the house you walk into the main living area. To the left is a sofa with two small armchairs, these are situated in front of a winding staircase that leads to the master bedroom. To the right of the room is a small open-plan kitchen with hob, cooker, large fridge freezer and slim line dishwasher.
Behind the kitchen area there is a shower room and toilet with a stylish square sink and a shower with several back jets.
Beyond the bathroom are two good sized double bedrooms with built in wardrobes, each room with a patio door leading onto the rear terrace with a free standing double hammock.
Winding stairs lead from the living area upstairs to the master bedroom. The landing at the top of the stairs has a gallery feel as it is open plan and you look down onto the living area below. There are large novelty star lights that hang from the high ceiling, at the top of the landing there is a large storage cupboard.
The master bedroom is spacious and bright. Mirrored built in wardrobes line either side of the room give lots of storage space. There is an modern, white-tiled en-suite bathroom, containing bath, toilet & bidet.

Our Personal Highlights
The Local Area: Arcachon (5 kms)
Arcachon's southern districts such as Pyla, Pereire and Le Moulleau, are sought-after by the French - each offers quieter beaches than those found in central Arcachon and some very good restaurants too. for those with smaller children and a lot of equipment, easier car-parking. Pereire beach is regarded by locals as the most attractive around.
Ferries run from Arcachon and Le Moulleau to a host of destinations including Cap Ferret, a stylish resort on the other side of the Basin at the point of the peninsula of the Presqu'Ile de Cap Ferret. The 'petit train' runs from close to the jetty on Cap Ferret over to the magnificent rollers of the Atlantic beach on the other side of the peninsula, a wonderful trip, especially for children. Or, without kids, why not have dinner and return on the late evening ferry?
The Banc d’Arguin sits at the foot of the famous Dune du Pyla, 5 kms south of Arcachon and close to the house. A journey to the summit (try it without the staircase provided!) is a must; sunrise and sunset are the best times.
Back in Arcachon, the Parc Mauresque offers plenty of shade to cool off in the shade, and a chance to watch the locals play petanques and enjoy the view over to the Ville d'Eté (the summer town, the main resort district of Arcachon) below and to the sea beyond. A fascinating walk leads from the Parc to the 'Belvedere', a viewing platform with magnificent 360 degree views of the town.
The Arcachon Basin is packed full of oyster farms and you will have no difficulty finding these delicacies to dine on in one of the town’s many seafood restaurants. Or head to Gujan-Mestras (France's oyster-farming capital) or one of the villages on the Presqu'Ile (l'Herbe is recommended) and 'déguster' a few at the water's edge direct from ostréiculteur (oyster farmer).
The Basin is also home to wide variety of birdlife and consequently is a popular birdwatching destination. In fact, there are birdwatching reserves at nearby Parc Ornotholigique du Teich and Ile aux Oiseaux (Bird Island) in the basin which can be visited by boats that depart from the Arcachon jetties.
As a change from the sea-side, a little further down the coast there is bathing in Sanguinet and Biscarrosse lakes - with no ocean currents to worry about and the forest setting providing plenty of shelter, these are especially popular with families with young children.
