Aquitaine enjoys a favourable climate

The south west coast of France is one of the sunniest locations in Europe but it's rarely as oppressively hot as the Mediterranean coast or Provence.

You can expect summer highs of 25-30 degrees celsius – pleasantly warm rather than hot, although the further inland you go the hotter it generally gets.

The Atlantic ocean in the south west of France is a far more comfortable experience than its UK equivalent! You can expect the sea to reach 21 celsius (70 farenheit) as it reaches the Côte d’Argent shore in the summer.

Winters are mild and, at the western edge of the Pyrénées, wet. However, the Côte Basque enjoys something of a microclimate, experiencing winters as warm as those on the French Riviera; it is not unusual for the temperature to hit 70 degrees farenheit in Biarritz in January. This attracts many winter tourists to the Pyrénées Atlantique, including the spa towns such as Dax, Cambo-les-Bains and Pau.

Of course, with mountains reaching over 2500 metres, snow is commonplace in Winter.
