Simple holiday apartment with courtyard & just 300m from the beach.
What makes Ma Lande a great holiday rental
It's only 5 minutes on foot to the beach yet it's tucked away in a relatively secluded location. It's a good value option too: it isn't not easy finding a beach apartment the 'right side' of £1000 but Ma Lande does just that.
Ma Lande is available for rental all year round. It is centrally heated and therefore winter lets are possible. Autumn and Winter are the best surfing seasons.
Best for:
Families who are on a budget. Hossegor is particularly good for teenagers. Outside the school holidays this is a great spot for surfers.
Suitability for:
Anything to watch out for?
Ma Lande is the basement level of a two-storey maisonette. Access is independent and private. Note that neither bedroom has a window - natural light is provided from the lounge patio doors.
Why Hossegor?
An established surfing resort with a very 'cool' vibe. The resort offers great beaches, good shopping, a lovely lagoon and plenty of activities (surf, golf, tennis, cycling, sailing & more).

Holiday apartment 200m from the beach in Hossegor
The apartment is owned by a British couple who also own a villa in the town. Simon and Patricia have been coming to Hossegor for many years and their kids, now teenagers, love the town for its waves and informal 'chic'.
Ma Lande is relatively spacious by French standards and offers a large open-plan living area, two bedrooms and a shower room. The accommodation is all at ground floor level with ceramic floor tiles throughout. The apartment is one of two maisonettes, the upper unit also being a holiday let.
Inside:
The living area comprises an 'L' shaped sofa arrangement (including double sofa-bed), separate dining area with a table for up to 6 people. French doors open onto the courtyard terrace.
Facilities in the lounge include flatscreen TV (UK channels via freeview), vcr, dvd player and CD hi-fi. A large wood fire adds to the cosiness of off-season lets.
Located off the living room is a simple kitchenette with pine units and which is equipped to include oven & hob, toaster, microwave and kettle.
The two double bedrooms are of a good size and include storage. One of the doubles has a set of bunk-beds. The apartment can therefore sleep 6 persons.
Neither bedroom has a window - natural light comes into the apartment via the patio doors.
There is a small shower room with wc indoors plus an outdoor shower.
Outside:
French doors open from the living area onto the courtyard terrace. In reality it is likely that most dining will be done on this small terrace which is enclosed by border hedge to make it private. The courtyard is a real sun-trap and there is an awning for shade when it's needed. A BBQ is provided.
There is a washing machine next to the outdoor shower (and wc). This shower is intended for use when returning from the beach.
Another bonus is the private parking space that comes with the apartment - the residents-only car park is a few steps away.
Bedrooms:
2 (2x double bedrooms, one with extra set of bunk beds )
Bathrooms:
1 (Shower room with WC plus outside shower (for beach use))
Style of property:
Simple French beach maisonette. It forms the basement apartment of two adjoining maisonettes (the one above is also a holiday let).
Pool:
No pool but open-air pool in the town
House rules:
No pets & no smoking inside please

Ma Lande is tucked away in an area of holiday flats, near to the Place du Landais at Hossegor's Plage Centrale. There is no passing traffic and it's relatively private. It's a short walk of approx 300m to the beach, around 10-15 minutes to the lagoon and 15-20 minutes to the town centre. The Place du Landais has bars, cafes and restaurants open most of the year.

Our Personal Highlights
The Local Area: Hossegor
The local region of Sud Landes is typical Aquitaine - endless stretches of sandy beaches buffeted by the Atlantic ocean, vast pine forests punctuated by the occasional lake and criss-crossed by a network of cycle trails.
Capbreton and Hossegor are neighbouring seaside towns which between them offer an appealing contrast. Hossegor is the more famous, largely through its surfing heritage. It's a 'feelgood' place offering boutique shopping, great bars, nightlife and restaurants, world-famous surfing beaches, casino, and a lovely golf course plus a beautiful lagoon for safe bathing.
Like most of the south west coast, the area is something of an outdoor playground. Take your pick from surfing, canoeing, sailing, diving, fishing, cycling, tennis, horse-riding and golf to name a few.
Golfers will enjoy the local course, the 1930s-built Golf d’Hossegor. The traditional club house is also a delight. A short drive up the road is Seignosse, a water and forest monster of a course ranked in Continental Europe’s Top 50. There are other great courses within 45 minutes drive including Moliets and several around Biarritz.
Hossegor regularly holds major surfing competitions; the whole Aquitaine coast is a perfect venue for surfers but here, the presence of an offshore hollow in the sea-bed gives the waves here that extra edge. If you don't fancy a go yourself, just sit on the sea-front with a drink of your choice and watch the surfers ride to shore. Surfing visitors will also want to visit the outlet centre at Soorts where the major brands have factory stores selling boards, accessories and clothing.
Cyclists can enjoy the many safe forest tracks that connect between the towns along the coast. Sailing enthusiasts should head for the marina. Being so close to the Pays Basque border, sporting life also includes the legendary game of pelote; you can watch a game at the fronton in Hossegor.
Capbreton lives in the shadow of Hossegor but it's the place the locals prefer for eating out and for beaches. It's definitely the more authentic of the two, largely because of its fishing port and daily fish market. In fact, the town thrived in the 19th century as a whaling port and this sea-faring heritage is still very much apparent today.
It also has a charming town centre and market. Capbreton is just more French than Hossegor, if you see what we mean. It remains, admirably, something of a French (and Spanish) secret.
Capbreton sea-front is a bustling place, day and evening. You can walk all the way along the marina and sea-front. The jetty, known locally as l'estacade, offers excellent coastal views. There's normally a few locals here trying to catch a fish for supper. It makes for great viewing!
