In our opinion

What makes La Cabane Mimbeau a great holiday rental

This is an authentic Cap Ferret property in a peaceful, natural residential area. With a spacious plot (1300m2), local beach just 100m away and all the amenities of Cap Ferret village plus great ocean beaches a short bike ride away it's a lovely place for a couple of families or group of friends to unwind for a week or two.

Best for:
Anybody who appreciates, or would like to discover, the unique, natural & stylish surroundings of Cap Ferret. This property would suit two families, one extended family, or group of friends sharing.

Suitability for:

  • Toddlers - no stairs to worry about, large grounds to play in.
  • Teenagers - one bedroom is independently accessed and would suit teenagers. Cap Ferret village & ocean easily reached by bike
  • Reduced mobility - entrance to house is raised, but otherwise accommodation all on single level.

Anything to watch out for?
The décor and furnishings are quite simple, in keeping with the tradition of this style of property. Two of the bedrooms have independent access; a third bedroom (one of the other doubles) is accessed via the twin bedroom forming a 'family suite'.

Why Cap Ferret?
Cap Ferret village is one of France's chic-est holiday destinations featuring smart boutiques, cafés and restaurants in a low-rise, laid-back setting - the ambience is casual, relaxed but appreciative of good living. The bay is renowned for sailing & oysters, the Atlantic beach is superb. It's easy to get around. It's an Aquitaine gem.

Accommodation

Authentic 5 bedroom cabane in Cap Ferret less than 100m from the beach

Many properties in the 44 Hectares are extremely basic and in need of renovation, but this is not the case La Cabane Mimbeau! Whilst retaining the character and simplicity of Cap Ferret properties, it is well-equipped and attractively furnished.

The property stands on a plot of approx. 1300m2, and is set back from the road. The accommodation is laid out on one level.

Inside:

Living areas: the entrance leads to an L-shaped living area, with sitting area (includes, small TV, DVD player & fireplace), dining table (seats 6-8) and modern, fully-equipped kitchen (oven, hob, microwave, dish-washer, washing machine, American style fridge-freezer).

Bedrooms: the bedroom layout is slightly unusual: Bedroom 1 is the 'master' bedroom, containing a double bed with en-suite bathroom, and is reached from the living room via Bedroom 2, a twin bedroom; together the two rooms form a 'family suite'.  Bedroom 1 also has French doors which open onto the main east terrace. Bedroom 3 (a double) is also located off the living room. Bedrooms 4 & 5 have their own entrances even though they are attached to the building. Bedroom 4 is a large double with en-suite shower room & basin; Bedroom 5 is a small cabin room with bunks, and basin; the location and access mean it is best suited to older children.

Bathrooms: There are two en-suites (see above) - 1 bathroom and 1 shower room, plus a shared shower room with toilet, and a second separate WC.

Outside:

French doors lead from the living area (and from Bedroom 1) onto a lovely terrace area overlooking the garden with two garden tables & chairs seating 6-8, plus two deck-chairs. The garden is a good size, natural & typical of Cap Ferret with several pine trees and a pine needle base.

Overall, this is an ideal rental for one extended or two families to experience a unique corner of Aquitaine.

The Local Area: Cap Ferret

Cap Ferret is a beautiful sandy strip bordered by beautiful Atlantic beaches & dunes on one side, the gentle Bay shore on the other, and the scent of pine forest in between. It has a stylish, laid-back ambience and an unspoilt, natural environment which give it an 'island' feel - what could be better for a holiday.

The famous '44 Hectares' is probably the most natural, exclusive yet unpretentious housing estate in France and is worth exploring by bicycle. It is also home to the island's most famous restaurant, Chez Hortense - laid back (what else could it be here?) and popular with France's VIPs for its slick service, great mussels and beautiful views to the Dune from the terrace, especially at sunset.

Cap Ferret village is 2 kms away, there you'll find all the amenities you need: restaurants and cafés, boutiques, daily market, cycle & surf hire, children's club, etc. The Bay beach in Cap Ferret is lovely & tranquil, an attractive contrast with the stunning l'Horizon Atlantic beach on the other side. The two are joined by the charming 'petit train' that runs from the Bay jetty to the Atlantic; the trip takes 10-15 minutes and, especially if you have children, is a delight!

Heading on down to La Pointe is a must, stopping to climb to the top of the famous Cap Ferret lighthouse on the way - the views across the bassin to the sandy wild-life reserve of the Banc d'Arguin and over to the Dune de Pyla (Europe's highest sand dune) are breathtaking.
