Characterful well-furnished town apartment close to Biarritz centre.
What makes Appartement Karys a great holiday rental
It is a thoughtfully furnished three bedroom/two bathroom apartment, with Biarritz's shops, cafes restaurants and, of course, beaches are no more than 10 minutes' walk away. In short, a comfortable and convenient base for making the most of Biarritz
Best for:
Families with older children and couples, wanting easy access to Biarritz's many attractions.
Suitability for:
Anything to watch out for?
Central Biarritz location means there is background traffic noise, but in our opinion it is not intrusive.
Why Biarritz?
Biarritz is the most famous resort in Aquitaine and offers brilliant surfing, shopping, golf and lots more attractions too. St Charles is a charming district of Biarritz with a 'village-y' feel and has a good selection of shops & a few places to eat. Nearby are pretty Basque country villages, dramatic Pyrenean peaks, Spain's glamorous rival to Biarritz, San Sebastien.

Quality period town apartment sleeping six in central Biarritz.
Appartement Karys is situated on the 2nd floor of an early 1900s apartment building in a cul-de-sac in central Biarritz, near the town's public gardens.
The apartment was completely re-furnished in 2008, preserving its authentic French town apartment feel: high ceilings, parquet floors and tall, arched glazed doors opening onto little balconies. With all the attractions and amenities of Biarritz on your door-step this really is somewhere to go native for a week or two.
The apartment owners used to run a Basque linen business, which especially shows in the quality and colour of bedroom furnishings and curtains. Furniture and furnishings are good to high quality overall, combining modern with more traditional touches.
The apartment is reached by two flights of stairs using a communal oak stairway.
Inside:
A small hallway leads into the main living & dining room - an attractive room with high ceilings. Plenty of light enters the room through two sets of tall French doors that overlook the street below, protected by wrought iron balconies.
One end of the room contains a corner sofa (seating 4), two armchairs, rug and plasma TV (French channels only). A glass dining room table and chairs for 6 people occupy most of the other half of the room. A glass breakfast bar with two stools divides the dining area from the open-plan kitchen. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped including: cooker & hob; dishwasher; washing machine & dryer; coffee-maker; as well as plenty of the usual crockery and utensils.
A corridor leads from the living area to the bedrooms and bathroom:
- Master bedroom, with double bed, chest of drawers and cupboard
- Twin bedroom, with two 90 cm beds, chest of drawers and cupboard
Windows in both these bedrooms offer attractive views over Biarritz.
The second double bedroom is a small room with a double bed.
The main bathroom contains a Victorian-style bath tub with shower attachment, basin & WC. There is also a shower room located by the entrance hall, with WC.
Outside:
In the basement of the building the apartment has its own storage area for push-chairs, bicycles, surf-boards, etc.
The apartment is less suited to groups with 1-5 year olds due to the high quality of the furnishings and some of the glass furniture. Family groups with older children, or older groups of friends/couples are preferred please.
Appartement Karys is a good size for 6 people (100m2 approximately) and in an excellent location. Overall, it's a very comfortable and extremely convenient place from which to enjoy this unique, characterful French town by the sea.

Our Personal Highlights
The Local Area: Biarritz
Around Appartement Karys
There are some immediate attractions within a short walk of the apartment: the cafés and restaurants around the Jardins Publics, the attractively restored Gare du Midi arts centre, plus Les Halles - Biarritz's bustling covered market, you need never use a supermarket while you are here! The bars & bistrots of Le Vieux Port are a 5-10 minute walk, as are the boutiques of central Biarritz, including Galeries Lafayette (like a mini Selfridges). With these amenities in such easy reach you really can go native.
Biarritz
After the wilderness years of the 1980s, this town is back in fashion. Celebrities and sports stars are flooding back to live in the region (including tennis star Guy Forget who lives next door to Villa Chiberta!), turning their back on the Côte d'Azur. Biarritz is an eclectic place; it somehow manages to mix an affluent elderly population with a steady flow of well-dressed surfers plus a sprinkling of super-rich jetsetters on top. A compact and stylish town, Biarritz really does have something for everyone...famous beaches, museums, fine restaurants, boutiques, casino, golf courses, horse-riding and the south west's famous spa and thalassotherapy centres.
